Laura Callaway Is A Mixed-Media Print And Embroidery Designer, Using Illustration And Digital Print In Combination With Traditional Stitch Techniques.

With a passion for colour, texture and narrative imagery, Laura is a creator of unique and exciting textiles that tell a visual story. Collections are connected through shape, colour, material or technique, always led by an initial question, concept or theme.

Inspired by the world around; changes in nature, forgotten objects, accidental marks of life, memories, moods, moments, stories and words; Laura has produced diverse imagery and textiles for a range of applications, including fashion, visual art, interior and exterior spaces, contemporary craft, packaging and stationery.

Concerned by environmental waste, Laura reuses scraps of recycled material within her embellishment and embroidery. Concerned also by issues of consumerism and throw-away society, she places emphasis on the value of the hand-made in today's fast-paced digital world. She aims to produce work that is unique and to be cherished, beautiful still with its imperfections and mark of the maker.

Laura graduates this year from the Arts University Bournemouth with a Bachelor of Arts in Textiles, with honours. Prior to this she studied for an Extended Diploma in Art & Design and passed in 2014 with a distinction. She has exhibited in multiple spaces across Bournemouth and Dorset, and created personalised work for a range of private clients.
